Sm Mario Wii Sports Resort Review

ahh wii sports, i remember unpacking my wii on launch night and putting in the disc and playing tennis all night long, good times, Nintendo built of that success by coming out with wii play which was fun but personally it just couldn't compete with the original. now we get wii sports resort which showcases 12 different events and best of all utilizes wii motion plus a device that finally gives us the 1:1 motion we always dreamed of. so now its time to get into the review. ill start with my favs and move form there.

sword fighting 9.5/10

okay sword fighting is awesome, i giggled like a school girl the first time I played it. it was just so satisfying flinging that mii over the edge to his doom with three hits one to the legs, then the right side of his body and finished with a overhead slice right to the head. dual mode is definitely one of my favs.

the second mode is like a quick draw game, where players must slice an object in the direction of an arrow hat appears on the object. this is also super super responsive and just completely bad ass.

the final sword mode is probably the most fun. your mii will walk its way through a level and you must fight of herds of miis with your blade. now its not a waggle fest at all. it takes strategy for you must be ready to block and attack your opponent from their unguarded side. you are given three hits before its game over. now there are times when the sword will go out of whack but t correct it simply point at the screen and press down on the d pad.

8/10
Basketball is loads of fun! 3 point shooting contest is simple but very tricky at the same time. you press b to take the ball and then just pull up and flick your rist like you would a real basketball. where the ball goes depends on how fast you flick and the direction. making a three feels very good and you can really get into you may even find yourself jumping as you shoot haha.
the 3 on 3 pick up game is also pretty simple but extremely fun. u pass by pressing the d pad or a and shoot the same way you did in the three point contest. when close to the basket u can dribble the ball up and down and possibly slip by a defender and go for a dunk. On D u can steal by swiping at the ball but dont miss cause your mii could fall down and leave your opponent with an open shot. to block put the wii mote the same way you would put your arms up in a real game. now i wish that they would have made it a little deeper than it is by giving us control over the players or making it full court but its still pretty solid.
8.5/10
archery is another gem that will keep you coming back for more. there is actually a lot of depth to this event with things such as moving targets and wind being added factors. you hold the wii mote vertical in your left hand and then pull the nunchuck back. it feels incredible to pull back and hear the bow getting pulled back at the same time. u release z on the nunchuck to shoot.
9/10
table tennis is probably one of the most responsive games on the disc. you really do feel like your playing ping pong. and it kind of makes me sad that they didn't bring tennis back for it would have been amazing. it just feels so natural when u switch from back hand to forehand and putting slice on the ball is done just as you would in real life. there are two modes in table tennis one is vs where u can face a friend or cpu and the second mode sees how many consecutive shots you can get in, cans will also appear on the table and you get bonus point for knocking them down.
8/10
okay now cycling is one of those games where i guess its just personally preference whether you will enjoy it or not. I read lots of reviews prior where it was bashed and then some where people liked it, im one of those who really liked it. playing is simple you just moving the nunchuck and wi mote up and down to move the bike the faster shake them the faster you go but if you got to fast your mii will lose a heart, after he loses 3 he will become out of breath and stop. to avoid this you must pedal only when needed and and drift behind other bikers mario kart stile to pick up speed.to turn you just tilt the controllers to either side. the scenery is enjoyable there are lots of different races boosting the replay value.
8.5/10
Frisbee is rather tricky to pick up at first because of how precise the controls are but after a wile you get the hang of it. the first even of course deals with u throwing it to the cute mii puppy while aiming it so that he catches it near the center of the target area. while this is fun its the second mode that gets me. frolf is definitely an instant classic, players can choose from three different frisbees which give them certain amount of max distance. the goal is to get the frisbee to go through the cylinder of light on the green. this game is pretty tricky and that just adds to the fun.
9/10
well im not gonna spend to much time on these to because they remain pretty
un changed except for the fact that wii motion plus makes them even better than they were before. which yet again makes me mad that wii tennis didnt make the cut.
6.8/10
air sports, players will first be introduced to skydiving through the interactive start up screen when they first boot up the game. basically the wii mote represents your mii and he will turn and flip in the direction u move the wii mote. you can form circles with other miis to get more points etc. its a fun little game and works as an intro but not much of an event.
8/10
the airplane game is more fun to me, you basically just fly around wii resrot island and try to find as many landmarks as possible. its pretty cool to find all the different areas of the island, many of the sites include the golf courses the swordfighting stadium etc. there is also a dogfighting mode which was pretty awesome. players hold the wii mote like a toy air plane and move there wrist in the direction the want it to go. this is extremely responsive. I even took of the strap and flipped my wii mote around and sure enough the plane looped around just like the wii mote, pretty cool stuff.

7.5/10
power cruising is porobably the most tiring event. ur arms will get a realy work out here. you hold the wii mote and nunchuck out like handle bars shift left and right to turn and give them a quick twist to boost. it works really well but it can feel kind of awkward at times and does get tiring. the event shows of some nice water physics though and can be pretty exciting untill your arms fall of.
7/10
canoeing feels more like a polished tech demo, its pretty dull but thats just me. now the controls work fine and i guess someone whom really likes canoeing would get a kick out of it but overall its not something you will comeback again and again like sowrd fighitng or table tennis.
you hold the wii mote like and oar and paddle from side to side. it works really well and your really do feel like your canoeing but this game just doesn't do anything for me.
6.5/10
wake boarding, hmm this one is hit and miss.you hold the wii mote like a handlebar and you can go left and right by tilting it. now this game is fun at first but gets old really fast. the point is to try to get as much air as possible and land your tricks. fun right the issue is that it lasts way to long and its just really really dull. this is another one where your arms will start to feel fatigued and you'll be wishing for the clock to say 0 so you can quit.

OVERALL

Okay now the ratings I put for each event are just my opinion and thats the beauty of wii sports resort. everyone is going to find something on this disc that they are going to like. its the same way some people like certain soprts more than others. the main thing here however is that wii motion plus is legit, all the events play fantastically regardless of whether you like them or not. there is something here for all players, so go out buy wii sports resort and then call over your girlfriend, boyfirend, grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, brother sister, whomever and I guarantee you shall have blast!
